Bill Hicks

July 25, 1948 - April 19, 2013

Funeral service for Mr. William Hicks, age 64, of Norman, will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman with Reverend Wes Collier officiating.

The Hicks family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Bill was born July 25, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of Belden Edgar Hicks and Doris Lorine (Webster) Hicks. He passed away Friday morning, April 19, 2013 at the Norman Regional Hospital.

Bill attended the public schools in Spencer, Oklahoma, graduating from Star Spencer High School in 1966. He was an outstanding football player, playing in the interior line. Bill and his teammates advanced to the State Finals his senior year.

Shortly after his high school graduation, Bill was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Miss Mary Joann Regur on September 2, 1966 in Gainesville, Texas. Soon afterwards, Bill and Joann moved to Wichita, Kansas where Bill was employed with the Boeing Corporation. Bill and Joann returned to Oklahoma City where Bill started his own business, House of Wheels in the early 70s. He continued to own and operate his bicycle shop for the next 20 years before retiring from the business in 1988. He then began a career in car sales with Fowler Toyota in Norman, operating and managing the used car division of the dealership. While he was with Fowler Toyota, Bill was the recipient of several awards for his outstanding contribution to the company.

After more than 10 years of being in the car sales industry, Bill retired and began a career with Freightliner, focusing his skills and sales experience in the commercial truck sales industry. He retired in 2003.

Bill was a big hearted gentleman, offering help and assistance to whomever needed it. He genuinely enjoyed investing in the lives of others and watching them prosper. Bill also loved being with his family, preparing large Bar-B-Que dinners and simply just spending time together. He enjoyed boating, golfing, and being anywhere that was close to water.

He will be remembered as a loving Husband and Father, who took the time to coach his childrens ballgames, develop their character and instill honesty and truth into the fibers of their lives. We will miss him very much, but take comfort that he is reunited with the love of his life, Joann, who preceded him in death on July 25, 2002.

In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death the father that raised and loved him, Robert Morris.

Survivors include his mother, Doris Webster Morris of Oklahoma City; one son, William David Hicks and his wife, Jennifer of Frisco, Texas; two daughters, Lisa Ann Hicks of Oklahoma City; and Dr. Dianne Chambers and her husband, Darin of Norman, Oklahoma; two brothers, Rocky Hicks of Wichita, Kansas, and Robert Paul Morris of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Sheila Hicks Lohr and her husband, Mike of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Karen Sue Grimmett-Orosco of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Hicks, William Harrison Hicks, Hudson David Hicks, Hayden Christopher Hicks, Sydney Joann Chambers, and McKenna Rose Chambers; two great grandchildren, Lynria Aja Hicks and William Rylin Hicks; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and additional family members and friends.

Burial will conclude in the Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma.
