Neda Joyce Gates

September 14, 1940 - May 20, 2014

Neda Joyce Bassett Gates, 73, of Midwest City, OK went to be with the Lord May 20, 2014. She was born September 14, 1940 in Roff, OK to Earl and Pauline Parks. Neda graduated from Del City High School. Her career included a plumbing business and managing a... medical office. She met Martin Gates in 1983 and they married in 1985. In 1992, she joined Martin in the restaurant business and retired in 2005 after a very successful career. Neda was known for her determination, enthusiasm, courage, spirit, humor, wit, insight, intuition, and compassion she extended to all she met. Neda loved her family, her animals and enjoyed nature, painting, sewing, gardening, reading and gaming on her Kindle. Neda was a member of Eastland Hills Church. Neda was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Marie Parks, brother-in-law Lon Wormington, and former husband Harold Bassett of El Reno, OK. Neda is survived by her devoted husband Martin, of the home, her children Bob Bassett of Midwest City, OK, Angela Godsil (husband John) of Indianapolis, IN, Peggy Thames of Ashburn, VA, Martin Gates (wife Judy) of Fort Worth, TX, Larry Gates (wife Lisa) of Phoenix, AZ, Steven Gates (wife Diane) of Corpus Christi, TX, sisters Suzie Wormington of Midwest City, OK, Lorraine Richardson of Eufaula, OK, brothers Glenn Parks (wife Wanda) of Harrah, OK, and Murray Lea of Houston, TX, and any grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Neda will be remembered as a kind, generous, and fun loving person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who valued her love, wisdom and loyalty. A special thanks and gratitude to Neda's niece and nephew, Cheryl and Pastor Kenny Lindsey for all their continued love and support. The family will be available to receive family & friends Friday, May 23, 2014 from 6-8pm at the funeral home; Barnes-Friederich Funeral Home, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73130. Funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Eastland Hills Church at 3000 S. Hiwassee Rd in Choctaw, OK 73020. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to Eastland Hills Church, 3000 S. Hiwassee Rd in Choctaw, OK 73020. Send donations in Neda's name directly to the above address.
