Gene Fuzzell

July 7, 1942 - August 9, 2013

Gene Fuzzell passed away on August 9, 2013 at Norman Regional Hospital after a year- long battle with kidney cancer. He was born July 7, 1942 in Oklahoma City to Claude and Velma (Rolfe) Fuzzell.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Norman, 220 S. Webster. Burial will be at Sunny Lane Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th Street, Del City.
Gene grew up in Norman and graduated from Norman High School in 1960. He joined the Army and was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. After the service he sold insurance before getting into the truck leasing business, which led him to the tire business. He went to work as a commercial truck tire salesman and was working at Southern Tire Mart at the time of his death. He took great pride in taking care of all of his customers and his customers loved him. He was an avid OU sports fan, a season ticket holder for football, mens and womens basketball and softball. He enjoyed traveling to away games with his fellow Sooner friends and enjoyed tailgating at football and softball games. He was a member of the Diamond Club, where he served on the board, the Tip In Club and the Fast Break Club. He volunteered for many years at the Womens College World Series. Celebrating the 2013 OU Softball National Championship on the field with his beloved Sooners was a thrilling finale to his years of service. He was also a lifelong Cardinals baseball fan. He loved golfing and playing with many friends and co-workers in golf leagues, and golfing with his sons. Gene enjoyed playing softball for years and coaching his daughters teams. He was a member of First Christian Church in Norman where he previously served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cyndi Fuzzell.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years Sandy and son Grant of the home, his daughter, Donna and husband Kim Stout of Guthrie, son Butch and wife Misty Fuzzell of Overland Park, Kansas, and son Duke Fuzzell of Edmond; grandchildren Tyler Porter, Dylan and Jordyn Smith, Wyatt, Hope, Walker, Lyla, Maya and Zane Fuzzell; great-grandaughter Adisyn Porter; his sister Linda Gray Madden; his brother-in-law Steve Humble and wife Mary Ann; and sister-in-law Judy Love and husband Mark; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Arrangements for Gene and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
