Jim M. Cook

James "Jim" M. Cook age 83 of Newcastle, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 in OKC. Jim was born Dec. 11, 1931 in Lineville, Alabama. His parents were John Hill Cook and Ruth (Cole) Cook. Jim grew up in Alabama and at the age of 15, he started driving a milk truck. This was the beginning of his life long career as a professional truck driver. From 1949 to 1952, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged he returned home and moved to Kansas where he met the love of his life, a young lady from Nebraska, by the name of Linda Phillips. They were later married on September 26, 1953 in Atwood. Together Jim and Linda raised five children and lived in various states while Jim drove a truck. He worked for various trucking companies throughout his life and retired from hauling cars for Jack Cooper Transports in OKC. Over his lifetime as a trucker, Jim had driven to all 49 states in the Continental U.S. He was a lifelong member of the Teamsters Union Local # 886 in Oklahoma City. Jim moved to Newcastle, OK in 1989. He loved living in Newcastle, being close to his family and having lots of friends. After he retired he enjoyed going to the V.A. Hospital in OKC where attended Sunday Church and Volunteered throughout the week. Jim also enjoyed traveling, camping and in his later years he became an avid walker. Every day you could see him walking throughout the town of Newcastle and spending time at the local coffee shop visiting with friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by: Parents, John and Ruth Cook; Two sisters, Lenora Banks and Margaret Arnold; One grandson, John "Butchy" Hill Cook; He is survived by: Wife of 61 years, Linda Cook of the home in Newcastle; Five children, Sheree Morehead and husband Ray of Newcastle, Mickey Cook and wife Paula of Newcastle, John Cook of Cole, Debbie Robinson of Blanchard, Marlon Cook and wife Wanda of Justin, TX. 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be, 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. Burial will be at the Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.
