Margaret M. Childers
April 30, 1927 - August 30, 2020
Margaret Childers, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2020. She was born on April 30, 1927 in Granite, Oklahoma, to Newt and Zula Smith. She gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. She loved attending and teaching Sunday school class for many years. She married Oren Childers on September 2, 1947 and was married 46 years. They owned and operated Del Paint Manufacturing for approximately 40 years. They had two children, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, all of which loved her dearly.
Margaret's hobbies included gardening, painting, bowling, bird watching, bible prophecy, fishing, traveling and sports. She played forward on the basketball team at Lake Creek high school which gave her a lifelong love of the game. She always enjoyed watching OU, OSU and the Thunder. She enjoyed playing games and cards with her family and her church friends. She loved entertaining and holidays with the family. She was the maternal foundation of the family. God also blessed her with a sweet kindness about her that few could match. Margaret's love for her family was unwavering and unconditional. She blessed and touched many people in her life. Her presence and smile will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Newt and Zula Smith; her husband, Oren Childers, and nine sisters and brothers, She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Berry and her husband, Ron Berry; and Delores Howie; six grandchildren, Sean Childers and wife Tara, Kendra Gillespie and husband Kyle, Jimmy Guest and wife Allie, Rachel Vardaman and husband Scott, Asa Howie and Drew Howie; ten great grandchildren, Braxston Back, Maya Ketcherside, Chase Childers, Ashton Taylor, Camryn Childers, Hudson Vardaman, Cruz Gillespie, Berkley Vardaman, Mila Gillespie and Shay Guest.
Services for Margaret are scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 2:00 at Southern Hills Baptist Church in the chapel. Interment will follow at Sunnylane Cemetery. Viewing for Margaret will begin Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 9:00 am to 8:00pm at Ford Funeral Service.
