Melvin Wells Carr, Sr.

Mr. Melvin Wells Carr, Sr., 94, went home to be with his Lord on September 19, 2008 at his home in Midwest City. He was born August 26, 1914 in Honea Path, SC and a resident of Columbia, SC for over 50 years before moving to Midwest City, OK in July 2000 to be near his daughter, Mary Barbara (Carr) Smith and family. Melvin was the eldest child of the late Wells Koy Carr and Ella Wease (Stone) Carr of Honea Path, SC. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife of 70 years, Mary Ethel (Piggot) Carr, and sisters Weasie Carr Hall of Athens, GA and Helen Carr Meeks of Williamston, SC. Surviving family to cherish his memory are his brother McDavid Carr of Honea Path, SC, his daughter Elizabeth Carr Smith (James) of Honea Path, SC, son Melvin Wells Carr, Jr. (Anne) of Montgomery, AL, daughter Mary Barbara Carr Smith (Wesley) of Midwest City, OK; grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Carr Goldey (Brian) of Carlsbad, CA, Melvin Wells Carr, III (Jennifer) of Potomac Falls, VA, Mary Louisa Smith of Bursa, Turkey and Annie Laura Flowers (Eric) of Midwest City, OK; great-grandchildren Sarah Anne Carr, Nicholas Edward Carr, and Emily Elizabeth Carr of Potomac Falls, VA and Joseph William Goldey, II and George Samuel Goldey of Carlsbad, CA. Melvin was a graduate of Honea Path High School, Honea Path, SC where he lettered in 4 sports. This was his entrance into Georgia Southern College. Later he sold insurance before his employment with Greyhound Bus Lines in SC. He retired after over 40 years as a supervisor in Columbia, SC. Melvin was a life long member of United Methodist Churches in SC and OK and was a fifty plus year member of the Masonic Fraternity. The family would like to receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, September 24, 2008. The funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Wickline United Methodist Church in Midwest City. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City.
