Alney Leon Brown
February 11, 1923 - January 19, 2017
Alney Leon Brown, 93, passed away on January 19, 2017. He was born on February 11, 1923 in Verden, OK to Floyd Amos and Annie Josephine (Mitchum) Brown. Leon proudly served in the United States Air Force (Army Air Corps) during WWII, attached to the 40th Bomb Squadron in the Marianna's, where he was one of the members who loaded the bomb on the "Enola Gay," additionally he was responsible for all types of munitions, including bombs, and was well versed in ammunition markings. He received an Honorable Discharge and was then employed at Tinker Air Force Base as an airplane mechanic for over 30 years. Leon married Evelyn Smith on March 1, 1946. They were married for 70 years and had three children. He was a devout family man who loved to sit in his chair and watch his kids, squirrels and the world go by. He preferred to spend the majority of his time at home, except when attending church, and spent many of those hours in his shop. He was quite the organizer and had an eye for detail. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife; and two brothers, Alvie Levon Brown and Allen Levoy Brown. Survivors include his children, Judy Starr and her husband Sherrill of Choctaw, OK; Jerry Brown and his wife Mishael of Houston, TX; and Donald Brown of Phoenix, AZ; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel, 5005 SE 29th St., Del City, OK 73115. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
