Margaret Ellen DeLaughter Blackwell
BLACKWELL Margaret Ellen DeLaughter, born October 16, 1918 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to James and Carrie Johnson, went to be with our Lord on November 24, 2000. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma City where she graduated from Central High School. She attended Kelham Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Training Union, was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, taught Vacation Bible School and participated in many other Christian ministries. She was also a member of the Oklahoma County Women's Democratic Club. She worked at the County Treasurer's office for 20 years where she was continually commended for her customer service and known for her pretty smile. In her later years, she most looked forward to holidays and special occasions with her family. Margaret had a generous and sweet spirit, was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. We are comforted in knowing that she is with our Lord and we will see her again in eternity. Her first husband, Arley E. DeLaughter, and second husband, Jack Blackwell , precede her in death. Arley E. DeLaughter was Oklahoma City's first Parking Meter Superintendent. Jack Blackwell was a former Oklahoma County Treasurer. Two grandchildren, David R. DeLaughter and Shelly D. DeLaughter, also precede her in death. She is survived by her children, James R. and his wife, Sandra; Carolyn Arlene Provines; Richard B. and his wife, JoLynn; Jack A. and his wife, Kay; and Robert D. and his wife, Barbara; "adopted" son, Don Kite, and Vicky; step-children, Jack Blackwell Jr. and Betty Sue Nuzm; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Services will begin at 2:00 , Mon., November 27, 2000 at Bill Eisenhour SE Chapel. Burial will be in Sunny Lane Cemetery.
