Helen Charlene Bighorse
July 7, 1944 - November 7, 2017
Helen Charlene Bighorse of Pawhuska died Tuesday in Bartlesville, after 73 years of living life on the move and always loving her family, both two-legged and four-legged ones.
Helen was born the daughter of Charles and Roxie Ann (Ward) Holt on July 7, 1944, in Tom, SE Okla. At a young age the family moved to the Okla. City area where she was educated, graduating high school in 1963. Helen was united in marriage with Virgil Richard Bighorse in 1963. They made their home in many places including Oklahoma and California before settling in Pawhuska. Virgil preceded her in death in 1998.
Helen had a God-given talent for music - she played the piano and cornet, and liked to sing. At a young age she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and has since been a solider for Christ with the Salvation Army. Another talent she had and shared with others was baking and cooking. Helen was famous for her baked beans which she made for the Wakon Iron 4th of July cookout. Helen enjoyed getting out of the house and town, and often took small two-day trips. One yearly tradition she enjoyed with her family was an all-day adventure at the Tulsa State Fair. Most of all she loved her large family which included her own pets and grand doggies.
Helen is survived by her five children, Virgil Bighorse Jr., Charles Bighorse, Marian Wood-Bighorse and Christopher Hambrick, Jeannie Bighorse and Andrew Bighorse; one sister Rachele Bowman and Don; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandchild, and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12-5 at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, OK.
