James Gardner Austin

April 28, 1919 - June 6, 2017

In loving memory of James Gardner Austin, 98. A man of great faith, love and strength in our family. Jim was born on April 29, 1919 to Harlin and Della Austin in Allegan, MI. He attended high school in Allegan and upon graduation married Maxine L. Truax on June 15, 1941. Jim's job opportunities with the Air Force brought them to Del City, OK where they started a family of their own and made many life long friends. Jim was a respected Air Force electrical engineer, war veteran and Masonic Lodge member. He had many hobbies including fishing, painting, jewelry design, gardening, dancing, bowling, and volunteering at his church. Upon retiring, he and Maxine loved to travel in their RV, especially to Rockport, TX for fishing.
On June 06, 2017 Jim passed peacefully surrounded by love. He is survived by his daughter Vickie Self and son-in law Larry Self. His granddaughter Marci Cather and great-grandson Brett Cather. He is also survived by Lavina Hotchkiss and predeceased by Maxine Austin, Eugene Austin, Charles Austin, and Eva Austin, all of Michigan. He was a devoted husband of 72 years, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed, but live on in our hearts until we meet again.
