Harold G. Scott
November 7, 1920 - January 14, 2002

Services for Harold G. Scott were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment followed at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery under the direction of SMITH & KERNKE 1401 NW 23rd ST in Oklahoma City.

Harold was a devoted husband of almost 60 years, a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. He went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2002. Mr. Scott was a resident of OKC for nearly 52 years. He will be remembered as a kind, generous man with uncommon intellect, and devoted Christian character.

He was born on November 7, 1920 and was raised in the rural area near Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where he attended high school. He also attended two years of pre-engineering at the University Prep School, and the NYA Basic Radio School. He married the love of his life, Viola Engelman in Enid, Oklahoma, in February 1942. At the time of his marriage, he was employed by Continental Oil as an electrician's helper. In September 1942 he began work as a radio repairman at Tinker Field where he was quickly promoted to radio mechanic. In October 1942 he enlisted in the Army Signal Corps Reserve and entered active duty in January 1943. In June 1944, Mr. Scott completed five terms of study at Oregon State in Electrical Engineering where he was on the Dean's Honor Roll. From July 1944 to February 1946 he was with the Plant Engineering Agency of the US Army Signal Corps in Philadelphia as an instructor in the Low Frequency Range School. While teaching there, Scott innovated a technique for tuning the low frequency range antenna towers that proved faster and more direct than the CAA method. During this time, he came in contact with several CAA personnel and they changed the course of Mr. Scott's career. He was so impressed with their dedication, integrity, and technical knowledge, that he applied for a job with CAA after his Army discharge. In April 1946 he began work for CAA as an SP-7 Technician at Kansas City, MO. This was followed by assignments at Omaha, NE and Salina, KA, and eventually he was transferred to Oklahoma City in July 1950 as a GS-855-11 Radio Engineer (Instructor). As an instructor, he taught approximately twenty different subjects. During the latter part of 1963, Mr. Scott was assigned to Washington in order to develop a NAS education program for FAA. After many trips to Washington, the pilot program was completed in July 1964, and it became part of the basic training curriculum. Mr. Scott received nine Outstanding Performance Ratings while at the Aeronautical Center. In addition to his work, Mr. Scott found time to work at his church, St. Paul's Lutheran, where he and his family have been members since 1952. Mr. Scott served on the Church Council, and was a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Scott was an enthusiastic member of the XYZ Club at his church. An avid sports fan all of his life, he was also a member of the Oklahoma City All Sports Association.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Arthel and Viola Scott and one brother, Orin Scott.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Viola, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John and Linda Scott, Bluegrove, Texas; and daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Larry Smith of Shawnee; grandchildren, Andrew Scott, San Diego, CA, and Dr. Kelly and Aaron Chin, Carrollton, Texas. Mr. Scott was especially proud of his two great-grandchildren, Travis and Austin Chin of Carrollton. Also surviving are sisters Bertha Beringer, Phoenix, Arizona, and Belva Carson, Baxter Springs, Kansas.

Memorials were made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Harold Scott Memorial Fund, 10600 N. Council Road, OKC, OK 73162.
