Born January 10, 1907, in Cabool, MO.
Died May 21, 1998, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK.
Wife of James "Jim" Hazelwood

Anna Elizabeth Hazelwood, age 91, of Oklahoma City, passed away today, May 21, 1998, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Anna Elizabeth Gerdes was born January 10, 1907, in Cabool, Texas Co., Missouri, the daughter of William John "Bill" and Mary Elizabeth "Liz" (Clark) Gerdes.

Anna was the fourth child in a family of nine children. She had eight brothers and sisters: John Henry "Johnny", Fred Herman, Mary Rosellen, Margaret M., Leonard William, Esther Julia, Agnes Clara, and Paul Edward Gerdes.

When Anna was about three years of age, her parents moved to Perry, Noble Co., Oklahoma, and farmed there.

In April 1912 when Anna was five, their farm house was in the direct path of a terrible cyclone. The house was destroyed and her baby sister Margaret was killed instantly and her brother Johnny died the next day from injuries and her mother suffered head and body injuries from which she recovered.

Johnny and Margaret are buried in the Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Perry.

Anna's parents continued to farm in Oklahoma until about 1917 when they moved back to Cabool, Mo. where her youngest brother was born.

Her mother died in December 1918, in Cabool, due to pneumonia that followed an illness of Influenza. A terrible epidemic that was raging at that time, and she is buried in the Cabool Cemetery.

Anna's father remarried in April 1920, to Sattie May (McBride) Dorrell.

Anna Elizabeth Gerdes was married in 1923, to James Holt "Jim" Hazelwood, and they had four children: Wilma June, James R., Norma L., and Charles E. Hazelwood.

Anna's husband Jim died in 1970, and her daughter, Wilma June died in 1988 in Calif. Anna was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Johnny, Margaret, Fred, Mary Rosellen, Leonard, and Esther.

Among survivors are: two sons, James R. Hazelwood and Charles E. Hazelwood, of Oklahoma City; and daughter Norma L. Johnson of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and several grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Agnes Brewer, of Wenatchee, Wash., and brother Paul Gerdes, of Oregon

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Hahn-Cook/ Street & Draper Chapel with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Salvation Army, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the charity of your choice.
