Gordon Arthur Couch

January 2, 1927 - June 15, 2016

Gordon Arthur Couch was born January 2, 1927 in Luther, Oklahoma to Howard Francis Couch and Ethel Virginia (Arthur). He passed away June 15, 2016 in Luther at the age of 89.
Gordon attended the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore. He then served his country proudly in the United States Army fighting in WWII. After his service, he attended Oklahoma A&M where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry. He and his wife, Louise, moved to Arkansas where he worked in forestry. In 1961 they planted a pecan orchard in Luther and in 1977 they moved there to run Couch Orchard.
Gordon spent time as the executive director of the Oklahoma Pecan Commission and was a member of the Oklahoma Pecan Growers Association. He grew up listening to his mother tell him, "Money doesn't grow on trees." Gordon spent his life proving her wrong.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard Couch. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Louise Couch of the home; daughters, Denise and her husband Terrell Johnson of Chelsea, OK, Diane Couch of Luther; (4) grandchildren, Sarah, Ross, Lisa, and Cole Johnson; along with many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Luther Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
