Gerald Edward Young

July 15, 1947 - July 25, 2012

Gerald E. Young born July 15, 1947 of Midwest City departed this life on July 25, 2012 to go to his eternal heavenly home. Gerald was affectionately known as "Birddog" which was his preferred name. Birddog graduated from Midwest City High School in 1965. He joined the Army and proudly served 2 tours in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Birddog earned the Bronze Stare and Air Medal. One of the greatest highlights of his life was serving his country. After graduating from Oklahoma State University, Birddog eventually began a 32 years career as a Federal OSHA inspector. Throughout Birddog's adult life he especially enjoyed working with the athletic teams as a trainer or equipment manager. He loved working with the Christian Heritage Academy football team and his dear friend, Coach John Merrell. Birddog also spent countless hours volunteering as a security guard and traffic director at First Southern Baptist Church in Del City. Birddog's life was one of humble, behind the scene service. He would jump to help anyone in need. Birddog was preceded in death by his mother Doris Young and father Ralph Young. He is survived by his brother Bobby. Birddog will always be remembered as a humble, loving servant and friend. An informal gathering to celebrate Birddog's life will take place on Monday, July 30 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mausoleum building at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City, OK. Viewing will be Saturday and Sunday July 28th and 29th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christian Heritage Academy Athletic Dept., 4400 S.E. 27th St. OKC, OK 73115
