Harold Dean Vernon

July 25, 1932 - October 19, 2008

Vernon, Harold Dean, 76, of Oklahoma City, died October 19, 2008, at his residence. Born July 25, 1932 in Oklahoma City to Bob and Bessie Vernon, Harold's career was based on teaching children about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Harold served as Minister of Childhood Education in Southern Baptist churches in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia. He was a graduate of Choctaw High School, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served on mission teams to Israel, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, and France. Upon his retirement, Harold became a member of Dickson Baptist Church, the church in which he grew up. The family's most cherished moments with Uncle Harold involved Christmas. Each Christmas, Uncle Harold gathered his nieces and nephews, read the Christmas Story from Luke, and then shared a gift with each one. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. He is survived by brothers, Ed, of Dewey, OK, and Bob (and wife, Barbara), of Tulsa, OK, plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration Service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at Dickson Baptist Church, 2000 N. Spencer Road, Oklahoma City. Interment will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to the Bessie Vernon Memorial Library, % Dickson Baptist Church.
