Shirley Wynema Tharp

November 13, 1923 - April 14, 2021

On Wednesday, April 14, 2021, Shirley went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and her loving Husband, Ralph Donald Tharp of 64 years as well as all her saved family and friends who preceded her.
Shirley was born November 13, 1923, in Holdenville, OK to John Henry Elliott and Rushia Rosalee nee Burchfield. She had four brothers and one dearly loved younger sister who all preceded her in death. Shirley is survived by daughters Judy Rich and husband Allen Rich and Betty Jean Haug of Midwest City., OK.
Shirley and Ralph rejoiced, spent immense time with and enjoyed their surviving grandson David A. Rich and Alfie of Santa Fe, NM and granddaughter Rachel & Gary Kirby of Harrah OK. Shirley also has four greatly loved great grandson`s and the loves of their lives (and hers!) Justin Jaworsky and Kimberly of OKC, Caleb Rich and Mariah of Glenpool OK, Tanner Littleton and Gabbie of Harrah and Shawnee OK, and Nicholas Kirby of Harrah OK. Shirley could hardly believe the blessing of living long enough to meet and enjoy the fifth generation of her great-great grandchildren Elijah Gregory, Alora Faye, and Ashton Michael.
Shirley has one living dear sister-in-law, Helen Waller, formerly of Cashion, OK, 101 years old still telling us stories and chuckling at life.
Shirley has so many loved nieces and nephews it would wear you out to read all their names! The more cousins the merrier!
Mom's world was the Lord and her family. One of her greatest joys was cooking and baking for everyone being sure each had their favorite dessert. Mom was always an avid reader and when she lost her sight to macular degeneration she continued to listen daily to the Bible and books on tape.
My Sister and I are grateful for parents who read the Holy Bible in our presence, believing Ps.119:105 that it is a Lamp in darkness and light to your pathway. We attended church faithfully as a family to hear its teaching and accepted Christ at an early age. Those choices set our lives on a sure foundation of God's loving presence that still guards our hearts in good and bad times. One of mom's favorites was from Ps. 91:1 "He who dwells in the secret place of the Almighty shall remain stable & fixed (whose power no foe can withstand) 2 He is my refuge and fortress, my God, on Him I lean and rely and in Him I (confidently) trust!" Mom wanted above all else for all her family to know and walk with Christ that they might never feel alone or without hope and have fullness of joy in their lives.
Visitation will be this Saturday & Sunday April 17 & 18, 12PM-8PM at Barnes and Friederich Funeral Home, 1820 S Douglas Blvd. Midwest City, OK. A celebration of Shirley's life will be there on April 27th at 10AM.
We want to thank First Christian Church and the Women's Group of Midwest City for continuing to bring flowers, send bulletins and pray for Shirley. Mom and Dad had many happy years and good friends in your congregation.
We want to thank Faythe, for welcoming mom at Fountain Brook and being her caring new next door friend when she came there at age 94. We want to thank all the old & new staff of Fountain Brook Assisted Living for keeping our Mom safe through the trying year of COVID19. "Everyone is so nice," she would always say. * Thank you for your helpfulness and kindness to our family through all our visits and late night wellness calls and comfort when mom passed. Thank you Pat for keeping her hair in shape & sharing your love with her and us.
Thank you dear beloved Kristy Chestnut for being a part of our lives and mom's - firstly as friend and longtime stylist.
Thanks to Kindful Hospice for blessing us (Charlene, Carrie, Krissy, Lois, Nikie), for your care of mom, understanding, wisdom and friendship that enhanced our understanding more fully of how to keep communicating with mom is those difficult last days of her life. It blessed us and her.
