Harrell Tate
October 27, 1921 - August 14, 2012
Tate, Harrell, 90, of Nicoma Park died August 14, 2012 in Oklahoma City. Born October 27, 1921 in Boswell, Oklahoma. He went into the CCCs at 15 where he helped build parks, bridges and roads, was drafted at 18, serving in the army from 1942-1945 in WWII as a foot soldier. Harrell rode on Gen. Patton's tanks through Belgium, France and Germany where he was injured. He spent time in a hospital in England before returning home to the U.S. He married Mary Grace Norton, on March 29, 1946 and moved to Oklahoma City. He worked as a carpenter and was involved in the construction of several commercial buildings in Oklahoma City. He helped to build the towers at the airport, buildings at Frontier City, the Myriad, Veterans Hospital, the runways at Tinker Air Force Base, and the constant remodeling of the Kerr-McGee Building. He was a faithful member of Nicoma Park First Baptist Church, a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren: Dana, Derek, Casey, Heather, Jeremy, Dezarae, Abbie, Spencer and Hunter. He was a kind, compassionate man who was very loved and respected. He will be greatly missed, but all can be comforted in knowing he has gone to live with his Lord, Jesus Christ, in a far better place. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Pearl Tate, one sister, two brothers and his son, Harrell Wayne Tate. He is survived by his wife, Grace Tate of the home; daughters Janie Reeves and husband Johnny, of Midwest City, Anita Brodrick and husband Rick of Nicoma Park; brother, Thomas Tate in Elgin, Oregon and Sister, Shirley Hasbell of Shawnee and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Viewing and family visitation will be at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be held graveside at Arlington Memory Gardens on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:00am. We miss all the things we did together Grandpa: the checker games, going to 7-Eleven for an ICEE, going to McDonald's for breakfast, rides home from school, Grandpa days and overnights. We will never forget. We love you, Grandpa.
