James Byron Summers

May 14, 1924 - January 3, 2009

Summers, James Byron, 84, of Midwest City, died January 3, 2009 at his residence. Born May 14, 1924 in Rogers, Arkansas to Arthur Clarence and Elsie Lenora (Thomas) Summers. He was an airplane mechanic in WWII stationed near Anzio, Italy at the age of 15. Jim used his mechanical knowledge throughout his life. He worked as an airplane mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base, owned several gas stations in the 1970s, ran the Oklahoma City Public Schools Bus Program for several years, and retired from General Motors in 1989. Jim loved doing many things, caring for his lawn and home, woodcrafting to build many fine pieces of furniture for his family, and helping fix things for others. He also loved to golf and had made many special friendships through golfing. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Ellen Summers, and step-sons David Hudson and Johnny Lee Hudson. Jim is survived by his son, James Byron Summers II of Norman, step-sons Donald MacArther of Florida and Karleton Ray of Midwest City, and two grandsons, Randall and Benjamin Summers of Norman as well as many loved step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, January 7th at 2:00PM in Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Loving Care Hospice, 1940 N. Harrison, Shawnee, OK 74804.
