Retha Mae Strickland

September 26, 1918 - May 29, 2008

Retha Mae (Harris) Strickland was peacefully reunited with her husband, Bert R. Strickland on May 29, 2008. She was born September 26, 1918 in Gotebo, Oklahoma to Ivy and Jim Harris. She was raised in Gotebo with a brother, Jessie and a sister, Thelma. In high school, she was an avid basketball and tennis player. In 1937 she married the love of her live, Bert Royal Strickland of Rocky, Oklahoma. She and Bert raised four natural children and three foster daughters. Together, they pastored Bible Baptist Church of Midwest City for twenty years. Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; brother, Jessie and his wife Jean; brother-in-law, Bond Ward; grandson, Buddy Colquitt and granddaughter, Rebecca Elaine Colquitt. Survivors include: sister, Thelma Ward and her family; son, Jim Strickland of Midwest City and children: Cheri, Shayne and Clint; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Carlton Weaver of Coweta and children: Randy, Keith and Vicki; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Karen Strickland of Oklahoma City and children: Chad, Kristin and Craig; daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Bill Young of Oklahoma City and children: Jeannie, Tommy and Shelly; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; Rex Strickland and children: Dona, Anthony, Dena and Dana; nephews: Hoyle Ray McDonald, Norman Keltner; niece, Jennifer Keltner and their beloved families. Retha closed every card, letter and note with Romans 8:28 and many will be in heaven because of her sweet witness of the Lord she loved. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2008 at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Arlington Memory Gardens.
