Ardath Lee Simmons

September 27, 1921 - October 11, 2011

Ardath L. "Boots" Simmons , 90, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, in Norman. She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Norman to Joe and Charlcie (Thompson) Williams.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City.
Ardath was a baker at the University of Oklahoma, retiring in 1983 after 15 years of service. Ardath loved to square dance and was a member of the Buckaroos and the Silver Spurs.
She also enjoyed bowling, knitting, traveling and the OU Sooners. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her black beans and rice, pineapple upside down cake and "Granny's Surprise." Her most memorable times were going with Roy to the OU/Texas games and riding a Harley at the age of 88 with her grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert M. Simmons ; son, Loy Lee Charley; sister, Audrey Much more; and brothers Joe Williams and Jack Williams.
She is survived by her son, Roy Charley of Norman; her sister, Readena Ringer of Norman; three grandchldren, Garry Charley and wife Shirley of Norman, Melloney Whatley and husband Josh of Omaha, Neb., and Shawna Charley of Norman; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman.
Arrangements for Ardath and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
