Felix Zamora Ruiz, Jr.
Felix Zamora Ruiz, Jr., 90, of Midwest City was born December 31,1915 in Arivaca, AZ to Felix and Cruz Zamora-Ruiz. In his teens, his family moved to Los Angeles, CA. In July 1940 he joined the US Army Air Corps as an aviation mechanic. In July 1943 he became an Air Corps pilot candidate. He graduated pilot training on February 8, 1944 and was awarded his wings. His first assignment was as a flying navigator in the C-45. He then went to Del Rio, TX to become a third pilot aboard the B-29. During training, he flew both the B-17 and B-24. After training, he was assigned to a B-29 just as WWII ended. Felix then flew B-29s and was in the B-36 program for the USAF. Next assigned to Korea, he flew the C-46 and the C-47. He returned to the US as an aero evacuation pilot on the C-47and C-131. He was then assigned to the Panama Canal Zone and flew the C-54 in Central and South America. Upon his return to the US, he was assigned as an Engineering Officer in a KC-135 air refueling squadron. After two years, he retired from active duty on September 30, 1960 with over 3300 flying hours and a Command Pilot rating. Continuing his aviation interests, he worked at Tinker AFB as a private contractor and later was hired as an aircraft technician for the FAA. He retired from the FAA in 1976. He married the former Marna Imogene Beard of Sayre, OK on October 5, 1944 in San Antonio, TX. He is survived by his wife; his two children, Ronald Ruiz, and Brenda Williams; his five grandchildren; Danny Ruiz, Julie Gaulin, Kristy Steenberge, Amy Sambolin, and Jason Williams; his sister Anita Ruiz-Robles; and his half-sister, Kathy Hagen. Felix passed away on December 7, 2006. Services will be held for 2:00 pm, Monday, December 11, at Candlewood Chapel, under the direction of Ford Funeral Service, with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
