Billy Dean Phillips

March 24, 1932 - April 14, 2014

Billy Dean Phillips of Midwest City went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 14, 2014. Bill was born 82 years ago in Holdenville, Oklahoma, on March 24, 1932, to Edward Everett and Anna Charlotte Phillips. He was the oldest of three siblings including Joe Phillips and Darlene Cox. He attended the University of Oklahoma for two years before entering the Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he continued his education at OU in commercial art. In 1958, he married Helen Sue Goldsmith in Bartlesville, OK. He retired after many years as Advertising Art Director at the Oklahoma Publishing Company. After his retirement he pursued his passion of art by sculpting, painting, and creating stained glass pieces. Although he enjoyed reading, taking trips to Santa Fe, and attending OU sports events, he received his greatest enjoyment by spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 55 years; brother, Joe Phillips and his wife, Barbara of Choctaw, OK; sister, Darlene Cox of OKC; two daughters, Cindy Spain and husband, Mike, of Jenks, OK, and Suzie Chandler, and husband, Dale, of Choctaw, OK. Bill has four grandchildren, Emily Avalos and husband Andrew of Carrollton, TX; Matt Chandler and wife Courtney of Jones, OK; John Spain and wife Bronwyn of Jenks, OK; and Will Chandler of Edmond, OK. His great grandchildren are Audrey and Britton Avalos and Maci Chandler. He has one great grandchild on the way. Survivors also include several cousins, two nieces, two nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. Bill had been active at Country Estates Baptist Church for many years, serving as deacon and in many other leadership roles of the church. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Quality Care Hospice and especially Cathy McCarley. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Senior Activities at Country Estates Baptist Church.
