Grace LaVerne Nigh
February 20, 1929 - April 5, 2021
Grace LaVerne Nigh, our beloved mother, grandmother and friend took her first breath in heaven on April 5, 2021, at 11:52 AM. She left her earthly body and joined Van, her parents, Marci, and a host of family members and friends.
Grace LaVerne Nigh was born in Oklahoma City, February 20, 1929 to Maudie Pearl and Theodore Melvin Tucker. She was a sister to Alvin Dale Tucker. She attended Heronville/Nicoma Park Elementary schools and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1947. She worked hard all of her life. She worked at a bank in downtown OKC for Fred Hambrick Sr. and he helped her get a job with Schlumberger in Midland, Texas. Mom was a very good bookkeeper, typist, and organizer. She typed many thesis papers for OU students when we lived in Norman. She was always involved in PTA and served as the secretary. She went to work at Tinker and was an Administrative Assistant until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church from 1968 until 1993 when she and Van joined Crest Baptist Church. She and Van started the JOY club at Crest which was an organization for those "Just Older than Youth." They truly loved doing that and had quite a crowd.
Mom loved her grandbabies and poured her life into them. She was a doer, encourager, supporter, cheerleader, positive, loving, hard worker, motivated, adventurous, and did not want to leave her family. We were very close and involved with each other's lives. Mom accepted Jesus as her Savior in high school and lived a life to bring others to the Lord.
Mom is survived by two daughters, Darla Horrocks (Sam) and Tammy Anderson (Bob); granddaughters, Katelyn, Madison and Rebekah Horrocks, Hannah Anderson, and Sarah Camacho (Ron); great grandson Ronnie Camacho. Peggy Cooper was like a daughter to her. She has nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly.
We loved and cared for her; she will never be forgotten and the things she did in this life that matter will live on in eternity.
Today she is whole because of the sacrifice of Jesus for her.
