Dorothy Ann Mussatto
March 25, 1940 - December 18, 2009
Dorothy Anne Mussatto was born on March 25, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to William Flowers and Dorothy Grace Flowers. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and educator. Her entire life was influenced by children, first her own and then thousands of school children whose dreams she encouraged. She had the pleasure of staying home and raising four wonderful children before going to college and pursuing a career as an educator. Being a mother and grandmother was the most important part of her life, but being an educator was her true calling. After teaching at Traub Elementary for six years, she became an assistant principal at both Tinker Elementary and Del City Elementary. Later she served as principal at Choctaw Elementary until her retirement in 2006. While at Choctaw, she accomplished many goals including improving students' test scores and creating a fun atmosphere for the children with the Dreamcatcher playground. As an educator, she was also committed to her own education. She earned the wonderful opportunity to learn more about the educational systems of other countries through her travels to the People's Republic of China and South Africa. One of her favorite hobbies was traveling, so in addition to these countries, she also traveled extensively throughout the world with her husband and sister, fully enjoying being immersed in other cultures and traditions. She was also an avid reader and talented seamstress. Volunteer work was an important part of Dorothy's life. A dedicated member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, she served as Mass Coordinator, Parish Council member and former Altar Society chairperson. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, Ray, her children, Ted Sloan, Craig Mussatto, Tony Mussatto, and Deborah Motl, grandchildren Aubry Anne and Stacy Sloan, Rebecca Sloan-Silk, Ryan, Macalah, Emily, and Joe Mussatto, and Justin, Courtney, and Jared Motl, great-grandchildren Bryce Silk and Lane Whitesell, and sister, Sue Evrage. A prayer vigil will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, and a funeral Mass will be at the church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Arlington Memory Gardens.
