Ward Samuel McCaskill

June 21, 1920 - February 11, 2014

Ward Samuel McCaskill, "Mr. Mac," 93, of Spencer, OK went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2014. He was born June 21, 1920 in Hennipen, OK to John Beal McCaskill and Elizabeth Loftis McCaskill. He was the youngest of five children: Boyd, Lowell, Edith, and Addie Lee. Ward spent his early years working on the family farm with his father and two brothers. He graduated from Hennipen High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After his honorable discharge from the military and the end of World War II, Ward returned home where he worked on the family farm and other nearby farms. He worked a short time as a roustabout before deciding to attend Oklahoma Baptist University on the GI Bill. While at OBU, Ward met and married Naomi Louise Lowry and completed his Bachelor's degree. Ward, or Mr. Mac as his students knew him, taught the 8th grade and coached the boy's and girl's sports teams at Star School. He later returned to school and earned a Master"s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Afterward Mr. Mac joined the faculty at Star Spencer High School, where he taught Drivers Ed for more than 30 years. Ward served as a long time deacon at Dickson Baptist Church in Spencer, OK. He was active in his church helping to maintain and manage the Falls Creek Cabin owned by Dickson, and in his later years, Ward directed the Fun Timers group at Dickson. Ward served as a chaplain at the Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, OK and also volunteered his time at the Midwest City hospital where he met his current wife Sylvia Flurry McCaskill of Spencer. Ward was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Louise McCaskill, his father John Beal McCaskill, his mother Elizabeth Loftis McCaskill, his brothers Boyd McCaskill and Lowell McCaskill, his sisters Edith McCaskill, and Addie Lee Price. Ward is survived by his wife Sylvia of Spencer, OK, his daughter Susan and husband Duane Ramsey of Midwest City, OK, his grandson Josh and wife Kristy Ramsey of Stillwater, OK, his grandson Ben and wife Meredith Ramsey of Aurora, CO, and 7 great-grandchildren (Morgan, Mason, Ellie Kate, Addie, Peyton, Stone, and Parker).
