Ruth Ann Jennings

March 22, 1939 - June 24, 2009

Ruth Ann Bell Jennings, 70, of Choctaw was reunited with her beloved husband and her Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Born March 22, 1939 in North Texas, she worked hard in the cotton fields to help her family while still graduating from Bailey High School. She met her husband, Douglas F. Jennings, a year later and after a brief courting period they married for what was to become 49 years, when the bond was ended by death. She bore and raised three children while choosing to be a homemaker. She kept an impossibly clean residence and was a cook beyond compare, for which she will be greatly missed. She engrossed herself into her children's activities, frequently being a sponsor for field trips, seen at recitals, or on the sidelines. Most importantly, she made certain they attended church. Every time the doors opened she was there with her family. She loved her husband. Her dedication to his pursuits took her all over the United States for short trips and long stays. She tended after him with fervor and missed him terribly when he was gone. She was an example to us all of how to love someone else completely and selflessly. Ruth came to know Jesus Christ as her savior on September 29, 1967. She was dedicated to the reading of God's word, beginning each day in prayer and study. She worked in the nursery for countless years taking great joy in the young children coming through. But her legacy is truly her song, with sincerity and conviction she would raise her voice to God through both choir and solo efforts. Her rich soprano voice inspired many churchgoers for years and is now tickling the heartstrings of the Almighty God. Preceded in death by her parents R.O. and Osha Bell and her husband Douglas F. Jennings. She is survived by her sisters Mary Shockley of Corpus Christi and Nancy Oakley of Forth Worth. She is also survived by her daughter Pamela with husband Larry Roberts of Midwest City, daughter Melissa with husband Greg Southwick of Okmulgee, and son Dr. Paul Jennings with wife Amy of Shawnee. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Nicholas, Elisabeth, Noah, and Rachel Southwick and Logan, Caleb, Chloe, and Mia Ruth Jennings, all whom she loved dearly. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
