US Marine LCpl Willie C. Ferguson, Vietnam Veteran, native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
US Marine LCpl Willie C. Ferguson was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Ferguson served our country until October 11th, 1968 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that he was killed when the helicopter he was a passenger in collided with another helicopter. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 9, 1949. His body wasn't recovered at that time. LCPL Ferguson is on panel 41W, line 045 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for more than 1 year.
On February 26, 1973 a Search & Recovery mission was launched due to a ID card being found by a U S Army Captain. The S&R team found the remains of two missing Americans. The remains were sent to the U S Army mortuary in Saigon on March 1,1973. They were identified as that of LCpl Ferguson & HN Heller on June 29, 1973.
"He is the son of Mr. Willie C. and Mrs. Elnora Ferguson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Willie was a young Christian man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He believed it was a honor to serve his country. He and others gave their lives for the freedom we all enjoy in this nation. May we live our lives in a manner which would say, the lives of our men and women were not given in vain.... LCpl Willie C. Ferguson served as a Lance Corporal with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III MAF.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal, The Navy Unit Commendation Medal(NUC), The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and the Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation.
