Carol Wayne Earnest
July 9, 1925 - October 4, 2008
Dr. Carol Wayne Earnest, Spencer, Oklahoma, passed away October 4, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born in Calera, Oklahoma on July 9, 1925. His parents were Tillman F. Earnest and Maud Rigdon Earnest. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Sea Bee (U.S. Navy Construction Battalion). He earned a Bachelor's degree in education from Southeastern State College, Durant in 1949. He taught high school math in Durant, Ok. He later earned a Master's degree in school administration at Oklahoma A & M. In 1968 he earned a doctorate in education from the University of Oklahoma. He married Betty Anne Power on April 7, 1950, in Durant, Ok. They moved to Walters, Oklahoma where Wayne was junior high principal. In 1958 he became the first principal of Star-Spencer High School, Oklahoma City Public Schools. He served as principal of Jefferson Jr. High, Classen High School, and Foster-Estes Vo-Tech. He ended his career as the business manager of the Oklahoma City Vo-Tech district. He was awarded Oklahoma City Schools' outstanding secondary principal in 1974. After retirement Wayne served as Spencer city councilman, mayor, and member of ACOG's 911 committee. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, brothers Robert, Glen, Grover Austin, Ray, Thomas Gaylen, and Hoyt. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Earnest, children Kevin Michael Earnest of Bixby, OK; daughter Sidney Earnest Ford and her husband Kenneth L. Ford, Oklahoma City, beloved grandchildren Kevin L. Ford and Taloa Earnest; brother Jerry B. Earnest of Madill, OK, Betty's sisters, Peggy Power Fields of The Village and Jane Power Vanderbilt of Houston and their husbands Franklin (Buzzy) Fields and Frank Vanderbilt and many nephews and nieces. Wayne was a proud member of Spencer United Methodist Church for 50 years. Visitation will be 10 AM - Noon, Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Spencer United Methodist Church. Services will be held 3 PM, Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Spencer United Methodist Church located at NE 52nd St. and Spencer Rd. Interment will be at Arlington Memory Gardens. The family asks that memorials be made to Spencer United Methodist Church or The United Methodist Circle of Care.
