Eugene Lee Copenhaver, Jr.

September 22, 1944 - May 4, 2016

Eugene L. Copenhaver, Jr., 71, of Midwest City, Oklahoma passed away May 4, 2016. He was born September 22, 1944 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Eugene and Bobba (Wright) Copenhaver. Eugene spent many years working for the Oklahoma Department of Veteran's Affairs doing building maintenance and repairs, construction and remodels before his retirement. He then worked on his own doing construction, tile work and remodeling houses. In his spare time, he enjoyed bass fishing, making his own lures, collecting old fishing lures and crafting stained glass. In his later life, Eugene met and married the love of his life, Alice. When he married Alice, he also took her daughters and family as his own. He adored his family. Eugene loved spending time with all of the grandchildren and often in the past few months he could be found sitting, watching his twin great grandsons grow and develop and laughing at their antics. He also was known for loving his crazy cats and dogs. Eugene was loved deeply and will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Alice Copenhaver; children, Cassandra McDowell and husband Richard, Stephanie Brown and companion Vincent Riggie, Amy Harjo and companion John Huegel; 7 grandchildren, Zachary McDowell and wife YunMi), Robin McDowell, Joshua English and wife Susan, Matthew English, Jayde Harjo, Shawnee Harjo, and Madlyn Huegel; 10 great grandchildren, Kaeden and Luke McDowell, Joslynn, Mykeal and Mariska English, Kane Harjo, Berlynn McCracken, Axl Harjo, Nicholas and Alexander Porter; brother, Dave Copenhaver and wife Lisa; and sister-n-law, Susie Copenhaver. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mike Copenhaver and son, James Copenhaver. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eugene's name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
