Deena Rae Rains Ables

April 21, 1951 - November 14, 2016

Deena Rae Rains Ables passed from this earth on Monday, November 14, 2016. Deena was preceded in death by her husband Charles "Larry" Ables; her mother Wanda Masters; her father Herchell Rains; and her brother Tommy Rains. She is survived by her daughter Anna Ables of Chicago, IL; her partner, Robert Roy; her sister, Diana Rains Denson; nieces, Pati Rains Colston, Cheri Chambers Reilly, Karen Rains; and nephews, Lewis Chambers and Dennis Rains along with many great nieces and nephews.
Deena was born on April 21, 1951 in Oklahoma City, the youngest child of Herchell and Wanda Rains. At the age of 16, Deena suffered a stroke that left her with partial paralysis. She did not allow this to define her life. Her courage and determination to live independently influenced us all. She went on to graduate from Del City High School in 1969. Deena always had a song in her heart, a tune for every occasion. She had a way to make each of us feel like we were the "most special." We will remember her by her generosity and kindness to others. Deena's life's joy was raising her daughter Anna to be the beautiful and talented woman she is today. They travelled many special miles together, going to dance lessons and competitions. In her later life, Deena enjoyed working in her gardens and of course, Thunder Basketball. Those she loved, Deena loved fiercely. For those that loved her, she will be missed in equal measure. Farewell, our Deena, and thank you. "We are confident, then, and prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord" - 2nd Corinthians 5:8
Graveside Services will be held Friday, November 18th at 1:00 pm at Arlington Memory Gardens. Viewing will be at Ford Funeral Service on Thursday, November 17th from 9am-8pm and Friday, November 18th from 9am-11am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Salvation Army.
