Rosa Mae Thompson, a longtime Cushing resident passed away on Monday evening May 4, 2015 at her home in Cushing with her family by her side at the age of 98.
Rosa was born on May 25, 1916 in Aurora, Missouri to the late James Hillyard and Ethel Winnie (Cook) Faulkner, the second of seven children and only daughter. She grew up with her five surviving brothers in Oklahoma City. Rosa attended Central High School in Oklahoma City.
Rosa married the love of her life James Allen Thompson on August 30, 1936 in Oklahoma City and was married happily for 64 years until his death in January, 2000. They made their home in Oklahoma City and moved to Cushing in the 1970’s. She was a member of Mehan Union Church. Rosa loved the Bible, her farm animals, her dogs, Joey and Princess, watching the birds, flowers, beautiful spring days, coconut cake, biscuits and gravy, birthday parties, balloons, and laughing at funny stories. Her smile lit up the room and she never met a stranger.
She is survived by her brothers Raymond and Charles and sister-in-law Anna. Also her nieces and nephews and (their spouses), Veronica (Bob), Valerie (Patrick), Marjorie, Joyce, Vickie (Cecil), and Angela, Chris, Donald (Melissa), Gregory (Cindy), James (Sharon), Leslie (Kathy), David, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her “adopted” son George Drake and his children, Chanda (Josh) and Carey (Brooke), and grandchildren, (Tristen, Addison and Piper) who were all very special to her.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers Byron, Richard and Cecil; sisters-in-law Mava, Jean, Fleeta, Marie and Fuji. Niece Barbara; Nephews George and Tommy.
The family wishes to thank her dedicated caregivers, Bob and Dorothy Aldridge, Leigh Scott, Rylee Youngker and Donna Hledik who made her last year and four months so very comfortable.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Mehan Union Church in Ripley with Rev. Larry Eslinger officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Oklahoma City, Ok.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Ok.
