In 1975 he founded the Mellow Madness Band which performed until 1979. Also in the same year he founded the Glass Pyramid Band. Glass Pyramid recorded two albums and performed as the opening act for concerts like the Temptations, the Whispers, Atlantic Starr, and the Four Tops. After Glass Pyramid performed for nearly 18 years, he founded the CDS Jazz Band.
Survivors include daughters, Millicent Garrett Plunkett, San Antonio, TX. Tonica Garrett, Oklahoma City; three sons, Delmar Garrett, Jr., LaMar Garrett and DeAngelo Garrett, all of Oklahoma City; a step son, Cory Davis, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Alfreda Garrett Lusk and Almetta Garrett, both of Oklahoma City; a brother Don Garrett, Oklahoma City; his father; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and other friends.
