Funeral services were held Feb 27 at the First Baptist Church, Weleetka, for Mabel Maddox. Rev. Steve Gniech officiated at the services.
Ms. Maddox was born March 7, 1923 in rural Weleetka to Joseph Love and Martha (McCullan) Bowman and died Feb 22 in Okemah at the age of 82.
She was raised in Weleetka and Sand Creek community and attended school both places. She married Ray Maddox and made their home in Weleetka. They later moved to Oklahoma City returning to Weleetka in the early 1940’s. They were married over 50 years until his death in 1993. In 2001, she moved to Okemah due to failing health to be near her family.
Ms. Maddox was a homemaker and enjoyed fish and travel. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, especially crochet, ceramics, and macramé.
Preceding her in death was her husband: Brother J.B. Bowman: and grandson John Maddox.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Ray Maddox and wife, Marilyn, of Okemah. Jimmy L. Maddox and wife, Linda of Weleetka, and Jerry Maddox and wife Donna of Bixby: two sisters Eximay Clem of Oklahoma City and Virginia Armstrong of Broken Arrow: 12 grandchildren: 18 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews which includes Don Maddox of Henryetta; and the other relatives and friends.
Internment was at Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
