Mr. Harjo was raised by his grandparents, Bunny and Betsy Harjo and enjoyed many a day chasing chickens with a lariat rope, riding horses and hunting, He attended Sand Creek Church east of Wetumka with his grandparents, He spent several years in Dumas, Tx. Where he and his first wife Charlotte, celebrated the birth of their two children, Bronco and Vivkie. He served in the Army National Guard during this time. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad after the birth of their third child, Lance. He worked for the railroad for 31 years, retiring Feb 8, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Woolbright Harjo: his mother. Ella Colbert Bender: two sons, Nelson Jr. “Bronco” Harjo Whitesboro, and Lance Wayne Harjo, Talihina daughter Vickie Lynn Rainwater Talihina: a step son, Joe Woolbright, St. Louis, Mo.: step daughter Jeannean Woolbright Thompson, Owasso, six grandchildren: Misty, Brent, Jeff, Bronco Lane, Caleb, Preston, and Alllison: five great grandchildren: Andrew, Tucker, Aubrey, Mikah, Kailey JoLynn: three brothers , Joe, Sam and George: eight sisters, Judith Ann Kendis, Alice, Betty, Debbie, Leah, Mary, and Benella” Mother-in-law , Verna Evans Woolbright: and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
