Wesley Sheldon Young, 69, of Ponca City, OK, left this life on January 9, 2023. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Ponca City Assembly, with Sean Searl officiating. Those unable to attend the Funeral Ceremony, may attend virtually on the Trout Funeral Home website, www.troutfuneralhome.com and click on the live-stream or toolbar icon on the top right corner after 12:45 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.

Wesley was born on October 21, 1953, in Ponca City, to Calvin Carl and Marcene Marie (Mead) Young. He was a draft/design engineer and worked for Mertz Manufacturing, Inc. for 30 years. Wesley served on the board of the YMCA and was instrumental in its planning and development. Wesley also served on the board of the Ponca City Parks and Recreation, the Oklahoma Jail and Prison Ministries and was President of the Kay County Jail Trust Authority, in which he was very involved in the planning and development of the new jail. He also served 20 years as a chaplain for the Kay County Jail.

Wesley enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, kayaking, scuba diving, camping and weight lifting. He was the power lifting coach for the Special Olympics for 8 years. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid OU fan.

Wesley is survived by: sons, Andrew Young and his wife, Kara, of Nebraska City, NE, Aaron Young of Dalhart, TX; grandchildren, Stella Young, Zoe Young and Alexander Reel; brothers, Spencer Young of Ponca City, OK, and Tracy Young and his wife, Cindy, of Ponca City, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Marcene.
