Services for Helen Edith (Dallas, Chamberlain) Young were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Norman.
Mrs. Young was born October 24, 1916, in Shelby, Ohio, to Fred M. and Louise (Heiler) Dallas and died October 23, 2008, at her home in Norman, Oklahoma.
She grew up in Ohio and Connecticut and graduated from Bridgeport Central High School. Before marriage, she was a registered nurse. She received her training at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, and was valedictorian of her class. On May 8, 1942, she married John Adams Young, Jr. in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and then devoted her love and many talents to her husband, family, and friends. Among her many interests were reading, knitting, bridge, the League of Women Voters, and, especially, opera. Her vivaciousness and sense of humor made her the life of any gathering, and she was a favorite with her nieces. During their long and happy marriage, the Youngs lived in Massachusetts, New York, Florida, Colorado, Mexico, Texas, and, recently, Oklahoma. They moved to Norman in February 2007.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother in childhood, Francis Dallas; her stepfather, Glenn Chamberlain; her brother, Wilbert (Dallas) Chamberlain; and a son-in-law, Barry Creighton.
She is survived by her husband, John; brother, Robert (Dallas), and Barbara Chamberlain of Newtown, Connecticut; son, Roger, and Frances Young of Norman; daughter, Marjorie, and Ed Baugh of Houston, Texas; daughter, Lise, and Fred Colgan of Cottage Grove, Oregon; grandsons, Jeffrey Baugh and Adam Creighton; granddaughters, Amy Baugh and Emily Creighton; great-granddaughter, Callie Baugh; and extended family in Connecticut.
