Bettie Jean Graham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was born on November 30, 1945, in Forney, Texas to LaSalle (Cadillac) Graham and Bertha (Red) Lightsey Graham. She passed away on March 22, 2026, at 80 years of age. She was the fifth child to the union of Red and LaSalle that would later bear a total of thirteen children.
When Bettie was 5 years old Red and LaSalle moved to Paul’s Valley, OK where she attended school at Dunbar elementary. She gives credit to her eldest sister, Wilma (Wilber) Johnson for teaching her to spell MAMA, FATHER, SISTER, BROTHER prior to her being school age.
Although she was not a member to any specific church home, she had accepted Christ as her lord and savior. She would often recite John 14:1 (Believe in God; Believe also in me) whenever we needed comfort or removal of fears.
While growing up during the early years in Paul’s Valley, Bettie played softball and helped her parents with her younger siblings. She would laugh and say, “I could never out pick Wilma in the cotton fields”. She was a hard worker early on, while attending school she worked in kitchens and cleaned houses to make a way. When she was older, she obtained job security with the state school (Southern Oklahoma Resource Center) working with developmentally disabled adults as Medication Nurse. A job she would say she never felt like was work where she would retire from after 32 ½ years of service.
Bettie loved to dance and have a good time. She had met and later married William Ray Young of Tatums, Oklahoma. From this union she bore her one and only child. In November 1966 Bettie welcomed a beautiful, sandy red curly haired girl named Kenna Mornay just a week before her own birthday. That was the beginning of the profound legacy that she would leave.
She was an avid Bingo player, and greatly loved going fishing, as well as cooking and dancing (Especially the Duck). She enjoyed having a dip of Garrett's Snuff, watching the bold and the beautiful facebook stories, her daughter, grandchildren and family. In 2005 Bettie moved to Oklahoma City where she resided with her daughter until her homegoing.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, LaSalle (Cadillac) and Bertha (Red) Graham; 4 brothers, George Graham, LaSalle Graham, Jr, Christy Graham, and Edward Graham; and 4 sisters, Wilber (Wilma) Johnson, Bobbie Graham, Helen Graham, and Mondra Austin.
She is survived by her daughter, Kenna Brown (Carl Brown), two grandchildren, Ione Graham, and Carl Graham; four great grandchildren, Alexis Frost, DeShawn Graham, Juliana Simpson, and Amia Graham; 1 great-great grandson, Tate Frost; well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and many friends.
