Betty Jo (Ticer) Wygant

September 3, 1924 ~ September 18, 2006

Betty Jo Wygant, 82, of Bakersfield, California, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died on September 18, 2006. Betty Jo passed peacefully at home of heart and respiratory difficulties with her husband, Hal and her son, Joe, at her side.

Betty Jo was born on September 3, 1924, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Retia C. Ticer and James E. Ticer, Sr. She grew up in Shawnee, moved to Bakersfield in 1937 and graduated in the first graduating class of East Bakersfield High School in 1942.

She had a distinguished and enjoyable career as the owner of Kern Personnel Services from 1953 - 1990.

Appointed by then Governor Ronald Reagan, Betty Jo served on the California Employment Advisory Board during his term as Governor.

She was also very active in various business, professional and civic organizations, serving as president for board of directors on most. She was a life member of the Eastern Star, was active in Republican Woman, Lady Lions, Administrative Management Society, National Office Management Association, California Association of Employment Agencies, Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, Bakersfield Jazz Club and others.

She lectured and taught classes at Bakersfield College and local high schools on employment related topics.

Betty Jo is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Hal Wygant; son, Jo Cox of Bakersfield; granddaughters, Michele, Shawnele and Lanele; their mother, Ronda Cox and great granddaughters, Skyler and Stormy, all of the San Diego area; brother, James E. Ticer, Jr. several stepchildren; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and many other dear friends and famiy members.

Her mother, Retta C. Ticer and father, James E. Ticer and her first husband, Thomas H. Cox, preceded Betty in death.

The family would like to give special thanks for the extraordinary care given to Betty by the Bakersfield Heart Hospital and Optimal Hospice Care and ask that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to Optimal Hospice.

Memorial services will be held at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA, on Monday, September 25, 2006, at 10:00 a.m.

Visitation begins today, Saturday, from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m.
