Melvin "Franklin" Wright
March 16, 1934 ~ March 14, 2020 (age 85)

Melvin "Franklin" Wright, 85, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020. Franklin was born March 16, 1934 on the family farm in Barber County to Melvin Wright and Edna Butts Wright. On June 1, 1952 he married Mary Lou Davis at the First Christian Church in Kiowa, Kansas. Franklin, known by many as “Poppo” loved spending time with his family and taking pictures of them.

He worked many years as a repairman for Gambles along with working at the Kiowa Post Office. He retired as Post Master to start Frank's Repair in 1991.

Franklin is survived by daughters, Jan Asmussen (Allen), Brenda Anderson, and son, Rodney Wright (Alice); grandchildren, Katie Kelley, Jeff Anderson (Tami), Doug Anderson (Renea), Jason Wright (Olivia), and Andrea Castillo (Jesus); great-grandchildren, Lewis and Christopher Kelley, Caydence and Warren Anderson, Lucas, Jacob, Tobias and Matthew Anderson, Ellie Wright.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; his parents, Melvin and Edna Wright; sister, Marcia Steffen; great grandson, Zacheriah Anderson, and grandson-in-law, Brian Kelley.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Kiowa with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church through the funeral home.
