On Tuesday, November 5, 2019 Johnnie Eldon Wright, beloved husband, father, brother and Papa peacefully passed from this life at the age of 81 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 12, 1938 to John and Stella Wright in Sparks, OK. He was the second of three children.
Upon finishing high school in Davenport, OK, Johnnie earned his Master’s degree in Mathematics from Central State University. After marrying the love of his life, Karla on July 24, 1960 they moved to Depew where he spent his entire career teaching Math and Spanish. In addition to teaching, Johnnie ran a successful tax preparation business, which he continued to operate until his passing. Among his many contributions to the community the most notable was his part in fighting to get affordable telephone services to the community of Depew. He was a charter member of the Depew Lion’s Club and held the church treasury position for the Depew First United Methodist Church for 52 years.
Johnnie was preceded death by a son, Michael David, his parents, John and Stella and his sister Betty. He is survived by his loving wife Karla, daughter Kris, daughter Kathryn and her husband James, brother, Clifford and wife Jesse, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He will be missed for his loving and giving nature, his unassuming, dry wit and his exceptional ability to offer compassion and a listening ear. Johnnie devoted his life to serving Christ and serving others and in this spirit, we ask, that in lieu of flowers donations to Depew First United Methodist Church Care and Share food pantry, P.O.
