Samuel John Wotring, age 24, of Lawton, Oklahoma, became an angel on February 17, 2019. He was born on December 19, 1994 and adopted by John "Joe" Wotring, IV and Kristin (Hubaker) Wotring on December 21, 1994. Sam attended Lawton Christian School and graduated in May 2013.
Samuel was active in sports, especially Little League baseball during his elementary years at Lawton Christian. His midget baseball team won several tournaments. They were American League Champions in 2007, with a record of 7-0 due to a short season caused by rain.
Sam was a member of Cub Scout Pack 118 from 2001-2005. He crossed over to Boy Scouts where he was a member of Troop 4175 from 2005-2013, earning the rank of Eagle Scout with bronze palm leaf. Sam was a member of Order of the Arrow, MaNu Lodge and was awarded the Religious Life Award for completing all 4 required sections of the God and Life program.
Sam had a heart of compassion towards others and animals. He would help neighbors with mundane tasks and not complain. He supported his friends, of which he had many. His collection of animals through the years included a garter snake named Grim, a walking stick, a hedgehog, numerous kitties (thanks to mom), and his beloved dog, Daphne.
Sam briefly attended Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology where he planned to study Information Technology. He developed a love for computers early in life and took two years of concurrent enrollment at Great Plains Technology Center in the Network Systems course.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, John J., Jr and Elizabeth (Gruber) Wotring, Alfred and Auslaug "Alice" (Walburgsen) Eide, Herbert and Pearl (Jeschke) Hubaker, Samuel and Mary (Bertha) Thomas; grandfather, Duane Hubaker; uncles, Allen Sweet and Samuel L. Thomas.
Surviving are his parents, John "Joe" IV and Kristin (Hubaker) Wotring; grandparents, John J. III and Vicki (Hanzlik) Wotring, Clifford and Deborah (Eide) Koppa, Mary Hubaker; aunt and uncle, Lisa (Wotring) and Greg Christner; cousins, Joel and Kyle Christner and many great uncles, aunts and second cousins.
