Katherine Ann (Howard) Woolsey

Katherine Ann (Howard) Woolsey
February 20, 1942 ~ December 12, 2011

Katherine Ann Woolsey, 69 passed away at home on the afternoon of December 12, 2011 from complications of Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) disease. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

She was born to James and Betty June "Grammie" Howard on 20 February 1942 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Katherine, known to her family and friends as "Cookie" grew up in Texas and that is where she met and married a young lieutenant from Elkhart Indiana, Charles Woolsey. She became a true military wife, loyally supporting Chuck"s call to duty and faithfully serving not only her family, but her country. She was a huge support in Chuck"s military career and they made many moves while raising a family.

After settling and retiring in Oklahoma, Cookie would care for all three of her grandchildren, which brought her great joy later in life. She leaves all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved.

Diagnosed with VHL at a young age, Cookie never gave up a zest for life. Although she lost her sight, she could see much more clearly than most and it never limited her ability to do whatever she wanted to do. Years later she would lose a kidney and then half of the other, but again that didn"t stop her. Her illness never kept her from living life to the fullest. She loved to travel, go shopping, listening to books and going to the theater. It never mattered what, she just did it. Even after her death Cookie is still helping others through the donation of her tissue to the VHL Family Alliance for medical research in order to find a cure to this rare disease.

Even though she was blind she crocheted beautiful afghans and even made quilts sewn by hand. She loved to play Trivia and had a 97% accuracy rate. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Cookie made friends easily and maintained contact with many. Her kind heartedness helped many through tough times.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Chuck and her two children, daughter Elizabeth Searock, and husband Michael, and son Charley Woolsey both of Midwest City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Sarah Boles, Charles "Jake" and Mary Searock; two great grandchildren, Spencer and Parker Boles. Cookie is also survived by one sister, Connie Webb and niece Stephenee De La Cerda.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Howard. She leaves behind many close friends and family and her loss will be felt by all those who knew her.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at St. Christopher"s Episcopal Church, 800 South Midwest Boulevard, Midwest City, Oklahoma @ 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the VHL Family Alliance, 2001 Beacon St., Suite 208, Boston, MA 02135-7787; www.vhl.org or St.Christopher"s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 10722, Midwest City, Oklahoma 73140-1722.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home 1820 S. Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73130 Phone: (405)733-2991
