Walter C. Woolard, Sr., of Spiro was born October 16, 1928 in Westville, Oklahoma to Charles Hugh and Eva Mae (Greathouse) Woolard and passed away October 28, 2008 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 80.
He is survived by two daughters; Ramona Lewallan and husband Orville of Poteau and Sandy Masterson and husband Jeff of Spiro, two sons; Alan Woodlard and wife Jennifer of Barling, Arkansas and Walter Charles Woolard Jr., of Spiro, three sisters; Ethel Eubanks of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Dona Jones of Westville, Oklahoma and Wilma Dean Sellings of Tom Bull, Texas, four brothers; Manuel Woolard of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, Hugh Woolard of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, James Edward Woolard of Gravette, Arkansas and Richard Woolard of St. Louise, Missouri. Eight grandchildren; Brian Allen Woolard, Christina E. Tobler, Charles E. Moore, II, and Hillary K. Moore, Desiree Dawn Masterson, Aniya Skye Woolard, Emry Lois Woolard and Kinlee Marie Woolard. Five great grandchildren; Breanna Elaine Blankenship, Bethany Lois Tobler, Layla Patience Smith, Dylan James Woolard, and Olivia Mae Woolard.
He was a retired Master Sergeant with the US Army, having served from 1951 to 1975. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Republic of Vietnam Service Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and three times Awarded the Army commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Silver, 2 Loops, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was retired from the Spiro Post Office, having worked there from 1979 to 1997 as a letter carrier. He was a life time member of the DAV, VFW and the Vietnam Verterans of America, Arkansas Chapet #467.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 31, 2008 at Victory Worship Center with Rev. Bryan Fouts officiating.
Burial will follow in Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
