Clyde Edgar Woodward

October 14, 1922 ~ March 22, 2003

Clyde Edgar Woodward, 80, of Santa Maria passed away peacefully at his home March 22, 2003.

Mr. Woodward was born to Tom and Merle Woodward October 14, 1922, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

He was raised and educaated in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.

Clyde served in the United States Navy during World War II and after returning home, he was employed as a cowboy and guide on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. He guided mule trains and packs to the bottom of the canyon for more than nine years and in the off-season was a hunting guide.

Clyde came to California in the early 1950s and was employed with the Romero and Quinto Marie ranches. In 1961, he moved to Arroyo Grande and to Santa Marie in 1970. He was employed with several ranches and retired from the Sisquoc Ranch in 1985.

Following retirement, Clyde and Rosalie traveled extensively all over the United States. Clyde was a cowboy that had many talents. He loved all animals and loved handling horses, cattle and dogs.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 44 years; Rosalia, of Santa Maria; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Vicki Amaral of Santa Maria; Donald Gene and Laurie Woodward of Stevensville, Montana; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndy and Dan Gomes of Patterson; sister, Hazel Cockrum of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Stallings; and brothers, Lloyd, Ray and Donald Gene Woodward.

A memorial service was held March 28, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary with Dr. Chalres N. Gibbs, officiating.

In honor of his request, a cremation was held and a private ceremony.

Memorials can be made to Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, 751 S. Black Road, Santa Maria, California 93454.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
