Kingston - - - Memorial services for Shirley Kay Wood, 66, of Kingston, formerly of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Ada, where she was saved and baptized. Rev. Gary Jamar will officiate.
Mrs. Wood died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at her home. She was born February 23, 1949 at West Plains, Missouri to Neil J. and Juanita Price Satterfield.
She graduated from Ada High School in 1967 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Central University.
She married Alton R. Wood June 7, 1969.
Mrs. Wood was an elementary school teacher having taught at Pickett for a year; Electra, Texas from 1973-1982; Latta, 1982-1989; Konawa, 1989 � 1998; the Pontotoc Technology Center from 1998 � retiring December 2005. She had a fully dedicated life to teaching and loving her students. She was an encourager and advisor for many of her former students throughout their adult lives.
After retirement, she temporarily moved to Texas to be closer to her grandchildren. She dedicated a decade to nurturing and caring for them. She was involved in their daily lives teaching them through stories and songs. She and her husband moved to Texoma May 2014.
Survivors include her husband, Alton Wood, of the home; three sons, Jason Wood and wife Jeana, Claremore; Eddie Wood and wife Heather, Anna, Texas; and Shane Wood and wife Leigh, Van Alstyne, Texas; a step-daughter, Kim Guenther and husband Dean, Woodford, Australia; her mother, Juanita Satterfield, Ada; two sisters, Sue Frederick and husband Ron, Seminole; and Carolyn Pasqualino and husband Mark, Poplar Grove, Illinois; her grandchildren, Troy and Nicole Guenther, Tori, Eli, Luke and Alexandria Wood, Andi and Avery Wood and Hailey and Ethan Wood.
She was preceded in death by her father, Neil J. Statterfield, January 11, 2003.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Malawi Orphans Ministries, P. O. Box 66, Ada, Oklahoma 74821.
