Lester (Dwaine) Wood longtime Ponca City resident passed away Sunday September 29, 2019 in McLoud, OK with his family by his side. He was 81 years of age. Dwaine was born April 18, 1938 in Ponca City, OK to Lester C. and Bennie Ruth Barnett Wood.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 in the Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Pastor Matt Click of Sunset Baptist Church officiating. Cremation will follow in care of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Dwaine grew up in Tonkawa and he graduated in 1956. He married the love of his life Doris Huston and they made their home in Ponca City. He worked for several companies; City Services, Al’s TV, the Flour Mill and Rodeo Meats in Ark City to name a few. Dwaine always had a good story to tell and he loved to talk, spend time with his grandkids and family, swim, taking care of animals and wood working and whittling. Dwaine was also a member of the Sunset Baptist Church.
Survivors include: wife, Doris of the home; 2 sons: Terry Wood and wife Alecia of Ponca City, OK, Shane Wood and wife Sherri of McLoud, OK, 1 daughter; Gayla Allen of Blackwell, OK 6 grandchildren: Brandi Barth, Sherina Wood, Taressa Wood, Tiffany Clark, Jacob Allen, Imber Horinek, 10 great grandchildren, 1 brother; Charles Wood of California, 3 sisters; Mary Sandlin of California, Ruth Jeffries of Tonkawa, OK and Barbara Wallace of Edmond, OK. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, 1 granddaughter; Shelina Wood and 1 niece; Heather Crews.
