Donna Sue "Susy" (Barnes) Wolverton

Donna Sue "Susy" (Barnes) Wolverton
July 4, 1954 ~ June 17, 2025

Donna Sue Wolverton, lovingly known as Susy or Tudy, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, in Durant, Oklahoma, at the age of 70.

Born on July 4, 1954, Susy lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and a heart that gave endlessly. She spent most of her life in Scurry, Texas, where she raised her children and gave of herself to anyone who needed her. In recent years, she made her home in Durant, Oklahoma, where she continued to serve and love others with grace and humility.

A devoted mother, Susy is survived by her children Jennifer Smith and Husband Troy of Scurry, Charlie Wolverton of Mabank, and Bobby Wolverton of Scurry. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Susan Wolverton, and her parents, Bill and Dorothy Barnes.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Derrick, Colby and Carlie. But her love didn’t stop with her immediate family. As the second oldest of ten siblings, she became a steady, nurturing presence in the lives of her brothers and sisters—many of whom saw her as a second mom. She was a sister, aunt, daughter, friend, and above all, a giver.

Susy is survived by her siblings Billy Barnes and wife Tracey of Tishomingo, OK, Kenneth Barnes of Scurry, TX, Gary Barnes of Ada, OK, Gayle Wooldridge and Husband Jimmy of Longview, TX, Anna Hare and husband Mike of Longview, TX, Phyllis Barnes of Coppell, TX, Andrew Barnes and wife Kammi of Scurry, TX, and Tracy Barnes of Scurry, TX, and preceded in death by her sister Kathy Baty.

She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family—many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who adored her deeply and will carry her memory forward with love and laughter.

She gave without hesitation—her time, her talents, her heart. She loved to crochet and craft, often making things not for herself, but for others. She found joy in birdwatching, holidays with family, and telling stories that made everyone laugh or lean in a little closer. She especially loved working with children at church, where her deep faith and big heart came together in the most beautiful way.

Her love for the Lord was the foundation of everything she did. It guided how she served, how she loved, and how she showed up—day after day—for the people in her life. Susy didn’t need the spotlight. Her joy came from making others feel seen, cared for, and deeply loved.

She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, and unwavering devotion. The kind of woman you never forget—because she gave everything she had to make sure others had what they needed.

She will be missed more than words can say. But her love lives on—in every life she touched.

A memorial service to honor Susy's life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., in the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel.

Services are under the care of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, 121 North 5th Ave., Durant, Oklahoma 74701. www.holmescoffeymurray.com
