Earl "Shorty" Wollard

Earl "Shorty" Wollard
February 27, 1917 ~ December 12, 2017

A celebration of the life Earl "Shorty" Wollard, 100 will be at 2:00 PM Sunday January 14, 2018 at Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Jimmy Berkenbile. Shorty's wishes were to be cremated.

Earl was born February 27, 1917 to Milton and Pearl Wollard in Yale, Oklahoma. He was born in the chicken house because the home was quarantined due to whooping cough. Earl was one of seven children. He departed this life on December 12, 2017 at Hennessey Care Center.

Earl graduated from Drumright High School in 1937 and enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1939 where he became a heavy shop welder in the 743rd Infantry stationed in the Philippines. He also welded in the shipyards during WWII until he was honorably discharged in December 1945.

He returned to Drumright where he went to work for Eureka Tool Co. as an oilfield welder. He met and married Laura Ann Looney on March 6, 1948. In 1958 the couple adopted an infant daughter, Terrie Lynn who became the center of their life. Earl was transferred to the Hennessey Eureka Tool Shop in 1961 with his boss and lifetime friend Hadacol Bossa. The family bought a home at Lacy where Terrie started school and could keep a horse. After the Lacy flood of 1975, the family moved to town where he lived until his short illness. He retired in 1987 at the age of seventy after working for the same company for more than forty years. He loved gardening, fishing, deer hunting and remodeling the house. Earl's friend Randy Hardin took him to Gail's Grill every day to eat and visit with his friends. Tom Holder gave him a golf cart to drive after Earl could no longer drive a car. He was very proud of his little red cart.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Ann; both parents and five siblings.

He is survived by his daughter Terrie Lynn of Ames; one brother Lloyd Wollard of Lapaz, Bolivia, South America; one sister Bonnie Stubblefield of Sapulpa; two grandchildren Jennifer Storck and husband Brian of Aledo, Texas, Jake Hajek of Ames; three great-grandchildren Sawyer, Kyle and Taylor Ann Storck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Hennessey Care Center for the loving care they provide our loved ones
