Memorial services for Robert Edward “Ed” Wixon, Sr., 74, of Tulsa, OK, were held Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Community of Christ Church in Sperry. Connie Bias officiated. Honorary Casket bearers were Robert E. Wixon, Jr., Jason E. Wixon, Joseph J. Caldwell, Rowdy W. Reeves, Devon R. Charmichael, Dillon R. Charmichael, Robert E. Wixon III, and Brandon B. Haggard.
Ed was born July 21, 1947, in Tulsa, OK, to Ira Epple, Jr. and Juanita Laura (Miller) Wixon. He passed away November 20, 2021, in Tulsa, OK.
Ed started his first job when he was just 14 years old for Consumers Gas.
He was drafted and served in the US ARMY from 1967-1969. He served in the Vietnam War as a 13th B40 Cannon Crew Member. He then went to work various jobs as a Mechanical Draftsman. While working for Texas Instruments, Ed was instrumental in the invention of the Speak and Spell, and other things like the TI scientific calculators. Ed then went on to work for John Zink for several years, before retiring from Tulsa Combustion around 2010. Ed’s biggest accomplishments were his 51-year marriage to the love of his life, Janet and raising their four children. Ed enjoyed inventing “EDAD” creations. He loved horseracing, going to the casino, dog racing, watching football, camping, campfires, bonfires. Most importantly, Ed loved getting together for family dinners and taking trips with the family.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet Wixon; children, Traci Barnes and husband Justin, Trina Haggard, Robert E. Wixon Jr. and girlfriend, Vanessa McNeel, Jason Eric Wixon and wife, Lori; grandchildren, Joseph Caldwell, Rowdy Reeves and wife, Perla, Devon Charmichael and wife, Danielle, Samantha Johnson, Dillon Charmichael and wife Taryn, Marylin Nelson, Robert E. Wixon, III and fiancée, Kristin, Madison Wixon, Brandon Haggard, and Jacie Wixon; great-grandchildren, Aedan Martin, Ira Reeves, Ezra Reeves, Charlie Johnson, Amelia Levan, Jackson Wixon; sister, Donna Crafton and husband, Jim; sisters-in-law, Debbie Oxford, Ursa Poleszak and Shawn Poleszak; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Juanita Wixon; his grandparents; sister, Peggy Lewis and husband, Ed; niece, Shelly Lewis; his father-in-law; sisters-in-law; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
