Irvin Lewis Winters

Irvin Lewis Winters
June 3, 1957 ~ October 20, 2023

Irvin Winters, age 66, of Lexington passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 surrounded by family. Irvin Lewis Winters was born June 3, 1957, the 4th of 5 children born to Irvin Edward and Betty Jo (Naumann) Winters. Irvin was quite the overcomer. He was born a preemie about 2 months early, and at the age of 3 was diagnosed with polio. Through the fervent prayers of his grandmother Reva, he survived polio and thrived. Although polio had caused some lasting damage to his body, Irvin never let his disability define or limit him. He was fiercely independent.

He grew up and graduated high school with the Guymon Tigers Class of 1976. He attended Okmulgee Trade School and graduated with his small engine mechanic’s degree in 1978. Irvin started working for Sunset Lane Golf Course in 1978 working on and maintaining all the small engine equipment for the city of Guymon. Through the years he worked his way up to the Head Grounds Keeper for the golf course. He took so much pride in his work and was constantly researching the best way to take care of and maintain the grounds. He retired in 2007, after 29 years of working for Sunset Lane Golf Course.

Irvin absolutely adored his nieces and nephews never missing an important event or just spending time with them. He would always make time to connect with each one of them individually. It would not be uncommon to see him playing “Madden Football” with the nephews and playing barbies with the nieces. He was even game to allow a great, great niece to do his hair and apply makeup. He was the “cool” uncle, the one that the kids could cuss around and enjoy “chicken nuggets and chocolate milk”. Irvin understood the importance of little moments and knew that the little moments were actually the big moments. He made everyone feel loved, cherished and special.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Edwards and Betty Jo Winters; his sisters, Sheryl Christopher and Brenda Mae Noland; and his nephew, Joe Bob Christopher.

Irvin is survived by his sister, Charlotte Behne and husband Jim of Purcell; his brother, Jimmie Joe Winters of Guymon; his nieces and nephews which he considered his kids, Monna Blackmore, Aaron Behne, Sheldon Spence and wife Jenny, Braxton Winters, Sage Behne, Seth Madrid, Charlotte Behne, Colby Behne, Sean Behne, Marc Spence, Brady Spence and Bryce Behne; his uncles, Gary Winters and wife Cindy of Guymon, Short Winters and wife Claudia of Severance, Colorado, and Stanley Winters and wife Debbie of Mertens, Tx along with a host of family and friends.

He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date www.wilsonlittle.com
